Lithgow woman charged following high speed police chase

A woman has been charged over her involvement in two pursuits with police and two crashes in Lithgow yesterday morning.

At around 11:05am, Mudgee Traffic & Highway Patrol say a green Hyundai Excel was exceeding the speed limit.

Police pulled the vehicle over, and as the officers approached it accelerated and continued driving.

The car was pursued for a short period, and police stopped as they entered the village of Cullen Bullen.

Around 11:15am, officers from Bathurst Traffic & Highway Patrol spotted the green Hyundai Excel and attempted to stop it.

The vehicle was once again pursued before it crossed to the incorrect side of the road, forcing the officers to stop.

At about 11:30am officers from Lithgow Police Station saw the vehicle on Mort Street and proceeded to follow it.

When they stopped officers attempted to open the driver’s locked door, then the car reversed and crashed into the front of the police vehicle.

The green Hyundai again drove off, travelling through a red light before crashing with a Holden Commodore on Main Street.

It continued for a short distance before stopping near Martini Street, when police forcibly removed the driver from the vehicle.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Lithgow Police Station, and then to Lithgow Hospital to undergo blood and urine tests.

She was charged with numerous traffic offences including speeding and two counts of leading police on a pursuit.

She was refused bail and will appear before Lithgow Local Court today.
