Local cab driver suspended over assault charge

A GOLD Coast Cabs driver has been suspended after being accused of assaulting a female passenger.

The woman got in a taxi on Surf Parade in Broadbeach around 4:15am on Monday and asked to be driven home.

She claims when the cab arrived at her address, the 38-year-old driver made a suggestive remark and touched her chest, despite her asking him to stop a number of times.

The man has been charged and Gold Coast Cabs has confirmed it is assisting Police with the investigation.

The company released a statement confirming “the accused driver’s affiliation with Gold Coast Cabs has been suspended pending the outcome” of the investigation.

“We’d also like to assure our customers that their safety is our number one priority and this alleged offence by an individual should not reflect on our other drivers, who adhere to our very high standards of service and behaviour.”

“The matter is now before the court, (therefore) it would not be appropriate to make further specific comment, except to say that our thoughts are with the young lady who made the complaint.”
