Local football club to make international debut in the Cook Islands

A LOCAL football club has been given the chance to play on the international stage in the Cook Islands.

The talented Under-17 Nerang Roosters rugby league team have been invited to face-off against the Cook Islands U-17 side in September.

The match will be held prior to a grade match between the Australian Affliated States Team and the Cook Islands.

With 17 boys and 3 staff set to make the trip, the club is desperately trying to raise much needed funds for flights and accommodation.

Coach Sean Donnelly said a number of the boys come from low income families who are struggling.

“We have a number of boys who simply cannot afford to make the trip,” he said.

“So we are looking for Gold Coast sponsors to donate to help us get all of the kids over the Cook Islands.”

“This is the chance of a lifetime, and will be great exposure for the boys ahead of NRL selection.”

Gold Coasters wanting to donate should contact Annie Johnson on 0422 160 497.
