Local politician ‘still smiling’ despite vicious dog attack

A FORMER Gold Coast Councillor is ‘still smiling’ despite being viciously attacked by a dog.

Susie Douglas was doorknocking in Southport yesterday morning, when what’s believed to be a Bull Mastiff escaped its yard and began savaging her.

The former Division 7 representative suffered deep bites to her leg, back, buttocks and arms in the attack and was rushed to hospital.

Ms Douglas is now recovering in Pindara Private, with her son John posting a selfie from his mum’s bedside, saying she was “still smiling even after being bitten 19 times”.

While “the dog will be laid to rest accordingly”.

Ms Douglas, a breast cancer survivor, plans to take another tilt at local politics next year, after an unsuccessful bid for Mayor in 2012.
