Local veterans to enjoy free bus travel on the Gold Coast

Local veterans will soon be able to get around the Gold Coast for free, with council offering complimentary bus rides for our retired soldiers.

Mayor Tom Tate confirmed on Thursday that the Transport and Infrastructure Committee has recommended the city expands it Free Seniors Bus Travel program to include veterans.

Mayor Tate said it’s a simple way to say thank you for everything they’ve sacrificed and done for our country.

“This reinforces our commitment to honouring the service and sacrifice of veterans of all ages,” Mayor Tom Tate said.

The free bus travel for veterans scheme is expected to be in place by January next year.

It comes as the City’s Free Seniors Bus Travel has 38,000 people currently registered for use, with approximately one million trips undertaken every year.

Seniors are able to catch a bus for free between 8.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
