A GOLD Coast podiatry business is calling on locals to visit their clinic this month to raise much needed funds for the Animal Welfare League (AWL) Queensland’s pet rescue shelter.

During December, 100% of all initial consultations at Hip To Toe will be donated to AWL. Furthermore, patients will also get to decide how much they pay for the consultation, usually valued at $95.

Matt Maguire of Hip to Toe said the initiative will not only aid the AWL, it will also allow people with nagging foot problems to have them addressed.

“I love animals and I am a big supporter of what AWL does, so I wanted to do something to raise funds for them, and at the same time encourage people to come in and have their foot problems looked into,” Mr Maguire said.

“So many people we see have been suffering with foot pain for a long time without getting it seen to. When they come to see us and we correct the problem they all say ‘I wish I’d come in sooner’.

“Now, they can come and help themselves, while also helping the animals in the care of AWL. And they get to name their price. It can be $5 or $500, whatever the patient wants to pay. It’s a win win situation.”

Brooke Whitney of AWL Queensland says the organisation is thrilled with Hip To Toe’s fundraising efforts.

“We are a not for profit, and we rely on support from the community to help us take care of these animals,” Ms Whitney said.

“December and January are really busy periods for us, so this drive from Hip To Toe comes at a perfect time.”

Ms Whitney said that even the smallest of donations give much-needed assistance.
“It doesn’t matter how small the donation is, we put every single dollar into the care of the animals, and it all really helps.”
