The much-anticipated draw for the 2022 AFL season has been released, with the Gold Coast SUNS set to host reigning Premiers the Melbourne Demons in Round Two next year.
The AFL today unveiled the full Premiership fixture, with the Gold Coast-Melbourne showdown just one of a host of big games set to take place at Metricon Stadium.
Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond and Geelong will also travel North to Metricon in the new year, in what the SUNS have described as an “exciting” fixture for Gold Coast fans.

“After finishing the 2021 season with only one game out of the last nine at Metricon Stadium we are thrilled to be playing at home, in front of our members and fans four times in the first nine rounds,” Gold Coast SUNS Chief Executive Mark Evans said.
“Off-field we’ll create our fun, family-friendly match-day experience, mix that with an exciting brand of football on-field, our members and fans remember will remember just how good footy is on the Gold Coast.”
It’s hoped Victorian AFL fans will follow their clubs to the Gold Coast, giving the city’s decimated tourism industry a much-needed boost.
“We know that we play an important role in helping the Gold Coast community and with interstate tourism limited over the past two years, we lobbied the AFL hard to ensure our fixture was also visitor friendly,” Mr Evans said.
“We’ll work tirelessly to encourage the 392,000 members from those Victorian Clubs to follow their team, travel to the Gold Coast, stay in our accommodation, eat at our amazing local restaurants and cafes and visit our many tourist attractions before coming to Metricon Stadium to cheer them on.”
The much-loved Q-Clash, between the Gold Coast SUNS and Brisbane Lions, will take place at Metricon Stadium in Round Six.
Dates and times for the first nine rounds have been locked in, with the remainder to be confirmed throughout the year.
