Long-time US Today Show host fired over alleged sexual misconduct

Well-known US Today Show host of two decades, Matt Lauer, has been fired over an allegation of sexual misconduct against a colleague.

Lauer’s co-host Savannah Guthrie was extremely emotional when informing viewers of the shock news this morning.

“Hoda is here with me this morning because this is a sad morning at Today and NBC News,” Guthrie said before reading out a statement from NBC News president Andrew Lack.

In the statement, Mr Lack said that “on Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer.

“While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”

Guthrie said her and her fellow colleagues were only informed of Lauer’s departure moments before going to air.

“We just learned this moments ago, just this morning. As I’m sure you can imagine, we are devastated, and we are still processing all of this,” she said.

According to NBC News, Lauer’s alleged inappropriate sexual behavior against a colleague “took place during the 2014 Sochi Olympics and continued for several months.”
