Lucky escape after car catches fire near Gold Coast school

It’s been a busy morning for fire crews, with two cars catching alight on the Gold Coast.

Emergency crews were called to Cougal Street in Southport around 7.45am on Wednesday after a car burst into flames.

Firies were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which occurred just metres from an all-girls school.

Thankfully no one was injured.

It came just hours after a vehicle erupted into flames in the southbound lanes of the M1 at Yatala around 5am.
