Lucky escape for motorists after car plunges into Gold Coast canal

TWO people have had a lucky escape after their vehicle plunged into a canal on the Gold Coast overnight.

Emergency crews were called to the canal on Pizzey Drive at Mermaid Waters around 11pm, following reports a car had gone into the water.

Two people, reported to be a man and woman, managed to make their way to safety and were treated at the scene by paramedics.


The man was taken to Robina Hospital with minor injuries, while the woman managed to escape unharmed.

It’s not yet known how the vehicle managed to make its way into the canal, however it has since been winched out of the water.

Investigations are ongoing.
