UPDATE – Two men on the run after M1 car-jacking

Update @ 7.30am, August 10 | Two men remain on the run after a car-jacking on the side of the M1 yesterday afternoon.

Police are still investigating, though early inquiries suggest the two tried to steal one car just after 3.00pm, though the driver realised what was happening and then failed to stop.

The pair then tried with another car – resulting in a lady pulling over her black mazda.

They threatened her with sharp knifes before getting in the vehicle and driving off – leaving the lady stranded on the side of the motorway.

The incident caused significant delays for M1 motorists travelling south during the evening.

Police say they are still searching for the two men.

Earlier @4.00pm, August 9 | An M1 commuter has reportedly been left stranded on the side of the motorway this afternoon, after they were car jacked.

Police were called to the scene near exit 89 just after 3.00pm this afternoon to investigate, though the car had already left the scene.

It’s understood two men were standing on the side of the M1 southbound, trying to wave down passing vehicles by making it look like they needed roadside assistance.

One vehicle appeared to pull over, before the men got the driver out of the car and fled.

Police are still trying to locate the vehicle, which is understood to be a black mazda, though say it may have crossed the border already.

Investigations are ongoing.
