M1 crash causing major delays for motorists

UPDATE @ 3.55pm: A serious multi-vehicle crash continues to cause major delays for motorists on the Pacific Motorway this afternoon.

The accident occurred southbound at Robina Exit 82 around 2.35pm.

It’s believed a flat-tray truck carrying a number of cars lost one of the vehicles which broke free and crashed onto the highway, causing a massive pile-up.

Photos posted on social media show one vehicle submerged in a nearby waterway.

The truck burst into flames, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky; motorists reported that trees along the M1 also caught fire.

Emergency services including specialist paramedics treated a man for leg, chest & head injuries before rushing him to hospital.

Another man has also been transported to Gold Coast University Hospital. His injuries are currently unknown.

All southbound lanes have been closed with motorists advised to avoid the area with long delays expected.

Northbound traffic is also at a standstill, with surrounding Gold Coast roads also backing up quickly.
