17 people assessed by ambos at scene of major M1 crash

UPDATE at 10:35 AM | THREE people have been taken to hospital and a further 14 have been assessed by paramedics following a multi-vehicle crash involving a mini-van on the M1 at Helensvale.

It’s understood the van and two cars collided in the southbound lanes just prior to Smith Street about 9.20am.

Multiple ambulance crews, including Critical Care Paramedics were dispatched to the scene to treat the injured.


Queensland Ambulance confirmed paramedics assessed 17 people, including nine children, at the scene.

Three of those – two adults and a child – were transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

They escaped the collision with only minor injuries, including neck and back pain.

It’s understood the van was carrying two adults and nine kids, with the other six people occupants of the other vehicles.

The incident has thrown traffic into disarray, with southbound lanes gridlocked between Helensvale and Pimpama.

At least two vehicles came to grief in the southbound lanes, just prior Smith Street, just before 9.30am.

Paramedics are on the scene, but Queensland Ambulance says there are life-threatening injuries.

The incident has ground traffic to a halt in the area, with southbound traffic queuing past Dreamworld.

Meanwhile, a person has been taken to hospital following a two-car crash and rollover at Carrara.

It happened on the Gooding Drive roundabout with Robina Parkway just after 8.30am.

Traffic was slow moving through the area while emergency services responded to the scene.
