M1 fire causing lengthy delays for motorists

Motorists are being warned to expect significant delays on the M1 after a fire broke out in the median strip at Pimpama.

The blaze started around 3.45pm and is believed to have been sparked by a discarded cigarette.

One crew from Queensland Fire & Emergency Services is on the scene with a second on the way.

Motorists report a large amount of smoke that is affecting the motorway.

Southbound delays are almost back to Stapylton while northbound traffic is also slow.
