M1 fire sparks delays on northern Gold Coast

Motorists are being warned to brace for possible delays on the Pacific Motorway this morning following a grass fire.

The blaze is understood to have broken out on the M1 median strip, near the Exit 57 off-ramp at Oxenford around 10.30am.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson told myGC one crew is currently on scene working to fight the flames.

“There is a vegetation fire at this location,” QFES said.

“Smoke may affect residents and motorists in the area. Residents should close their doors and windows and keep medication close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.”

One lane has been blocked, with motorists also urged to drive to conditions.
