M1 traffic grinds to a halt following crash at Gaven

UPDATE 2:40PM | THREE people, including a small child have been taken to hospital after the car they were in was wiped out by a truck on the M1 at Gaven.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes of the M1, just after the Smith Street off-ramp shortly before 2PM.

Two adults and a small child have all been transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital.


Fortunately, they appear to have escaped serious harm. Queensland Ambulance said the trio all have minor injuries.

Extensive delays are still being experienced, with traffic now backed up for almost 10 kilometres. Service roads are also becoming jammed.

EARLIER: TRAFFIC has ground to a halt on the Pacific Motorway following a multi-vehicle crash at Gaven.

The accident has occurred in the northbound lanes just after the Smith Street off-ramp at Exit 66.

Early reports suggest a truck has taken out a car in the far left-hand lane.

Paramedics are on the scene treating three people. Queensland Ambulance says they all have minor injuries.

The incident is causing significant delays, with northbound traffic backed up for at least five kilometres.

Service roads running alongside the motorway are also quickly becoming jammed as motorists scramble to get off the highway and avoid the delays.
