Magnitude 5.7 earthquake shakes parts of NZ
A strong earthquake has been detected off the east coast of New Zealand’s north island.
The quake, which measured 5.7 on the Richter scale, struck at a depth of 19km offshore of East Cape around 10.00am local time.
Geo Science Australia estimates the tremor could have been felt by people up to 340km away.
