Main Beach diner allegedly skips the bill

A man faces a whole host of charges after he allegedly filled himself with seafood and alcohol at a Main Beach restaurant then took off without paying a cent.

Staff say they chased the errant diner down SeaWorld Drive on Sunday afternoon and watched him enter the surf.

Police asked Lifeguards to help them reach the man.  Officers were then towed out to the man on the back of jet-skis.  That’s where they tried to convince the man to get out of the water by himself, but he refused.

Police then jumped off the jet skis, grabbed the man and forced him back to shore.

The 33-year-old man from Labrador has been charged with one count of stealing and two counts of serious assault of a police officer.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
