Alleged drunk driver gets car stuck on Gold Coast tram tracks

UPDATE @ 6.15am | An alleged drunk driver has caused chaos for early morning tram users after their car got wedged on the tracks.

Queensland Police were called to reports of a Volkswagon Tiguan on the tram line near the Sundale Bridge around 3.10am on Friday.

Officers searched the nearby area and found a woman on the Gold Coast Highway in Surfers Paradise who is alleged to be the driver of the car.


She was breath tested and allegedly returned a reading of 0.15, which is three times the legal limit.

The 46-year-old Pacific Pines woman has been charged with driving under the influence of liquor.

She is due to face Southport Court on January 12.

TransLink has confirmed the car has been cleared from the tracks but commuters can expect delays of up to 45 minutes.

EARLIER @ 5.30AM | A car has become stuck on the tram tracks on the Gold Coast, causing major delays.

It happened along the Sundale Bridge in Southport just after 5am on Friday.

TransLink has warned of delays of up to 60 minutes in both directions between Broachbeach South and Helensvale stations.

Drivers have reported seeing the car stuck about halfway along the well-known bridge.

Workers are currently onsite clearing the track.
