Major delays at Sydney and Melbourne airports due to system glitch

Major delays at Sydney and Melbourne international airports after a technical delay.

It’s believed the e-passport gates are unable to operate at both airports this morning, forcing all arrivals to go through the manual passport checks.

Since the operation of the e-passport gates – which automatically process travellers who’s passports have electronic chips – manual terminals are much fewer.

Thousands of people are now cuing in passport control at both airports waiting to get through.

It’s believed outbound passengers are also being effected.

Border Force has confirmed a glitch in their system, though further details are not yet available.

Many have taken to social media, frustrated with the delays.

It’s believed some passengers will miss their flights due to these delays.
