Major delays on the M1 after semi overturns

UPDATE: Things are expected to slowly return to normal, after emergency services quickly worked to clear the scene of an accident this afternoon.

A trailer carrying horses is believed to have overturned on the M1 near exit 41 in Yatala, blocking three of the four southbound lanes.

All lanes are now open.

One horse escaped while another was trapped in the horse float.

Both animals are being checked by vets and are expected to be just fine.

EARLIER: MOTORISTS heading along the M1 through Yatala are being warned of some major delays this afternoon.

Just after 12.30 a semi-trailer carrying a horse overturned on the motorway near Exit 41, blocking three lanes of the southbound stretch.

No persons are believed to have been injured in the crash although the animal is stil trapped in the horse float.

A Vet is on their way to the scene.

Emergency services are also on their way to help with traffic diversions.

Motorists are being urged to take alternate routes or delay their trip if possible.
