MAJOR RECALL: 48,000+ Mitsubishi vehicles recalled nationwide

Mitsubishi owners are being warned of a major recall affecting more than 48,000 vehicles around the country.

The recall, issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today, involves the Mitsubishi Lancer (CJ & CF) 15-16MY, Mitsubishi ASX (XB) 15-15.5MY and Mitsubishi Outlander (ZJ & ZK) 14MY & 16-17MY

The affected vehicles were sold between December 28 2014 – 6 February 2017.

According to the recall notice, the consumer watchdog says the vehicle’s power relays may generate excessive heat, resulting in relay failure.

“As a result, the engine may stall during driving, fail to restart or failsafe protection may be activated, with a loss of engine power.”

“An unexpected loss of engine power may result in an accident.”

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Mitsubishi Motors Australia.

“When parts become available, Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known owners by mail and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred dealer to replace the affected Power Relay/s,” the notice reads.

“Consumers who require further information should contact Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 1312 11 or contact their preferred Dealer.
