Major search underway for baby seen floating in water

A major search is continuing in Sydney this morning, after reports that a baby was seen floating in water in the city’s south east.

Emergency services were called to Yarra Bay, La Perouse, around 5.00pm yesterday, after witnesses reported seeing a dead baby in the water.

Police officers immediately started an investigation, speaking to several witnesses who claim the baby’s body was wrapped in a plastic bag.

A number of them reported seeing it floating in shallow water.

Several agencies then became involved in a large-scale search of the area, including Police Marine Area Command, Polair, Public Order & Riot Squad and several rescue helicopters and NSW Ambulance.

The search was suspended at 7.45pm due to poor visibility and no further sightings, but recommenced early this morning.
