Major search underway for missing Gold Coast diver

A search is continuing off North Stradbroke Island for a Gold Coast man who vanished while diving.

Burleigh local Didrik Hurum was one of four people who set out on a private boat from the coast early Wednesday morning.

The 26-year-old, who studies marine science at Griffith University, went missing while freediving around 3-4 miles north east of Point Lookout.

It’s understood the other divers raised the alarm with authorities after Hurum failed to return to the boat.

They also launched their own search for the Norwegian national, diving back into the water, but they had no luck locating him.

Despite a major search involving five helicopters and six vessels, the experienced diver has still not been found.

The search is continuing today, with police asking for anyone that may have been in the area and has any information to come forward.
