Major security training to take place on the Gold Coast today

The Australian Defence Force and Queensland Police will carry out a major two-day security exercise on the Gold Coast starting today.

As part of the two day joint training, we may see military watercraft and vehicles, tactical equipment and soldiers carrying weapons.

The soldiers may possibly be firing blanks or paint ammunition as well, but we’re being assured there’s no need to be alarmed.

Today’s exercise will take place in the early hours in the area surrounding Pacific Fair, and will continue on Wednesday around Marina Mirage at Main Beach.

The exercises are an important component of the Government’s commitment to host a safe and secure Commonwealth Games.

While there is no specific threat to Queensland or the Commonwealth Games, the National Terrorism Threat Level for Australia remains at ‘Probable’.

Police are urging anyone with concerns about the exercise to contact Policelink.
