Malcolm Turnbull remains the PM – some seats still undecided

Malcolm Turnbull has finally claimed victory in the federal election, after rival Bill Shorten called to concede defeat.

The Coalition is on track to achieve a slim majority, possibly winning 74 seats plus another couple.

The Prime Minister told the media in Sydney “this is a great day today”.

“We have resolved this election and have done so peacefully. It’s something we should celebrate and not take for granted.”

Mr Shorten told Mr Turnbull the Labor Party would work with the Coalition on matters wherever possible.

In the northern Gold Coast seat of Forde, the LNP’S Bert Van Manen still leads Labor’s Des Hardman but is yet to officially declare a win.
