Man, 21, charged with shattering elderly woman’s pelvis in violent bag snatch

A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested and charged over a violent bag snatch that left a woman in her 80s in hospital with a fractured pelvis.

The 83-year-old remains in hospital following the alleged attack in Ballina last week.

Police said the elderly woman’s pelvis was shattered when she was robbed of her handbag and shoved to the ground on Winton Lane on Thursday, September 21.

Following investigations, the 21-year-old man handed himself into police at Ballina Police Station on Saturday.

He was arrested and has since been charged with one count of aggravated robbery inflict grievous bodily harm.

The man from West Ballina has been granted strict conditional bail and will front Ballina Local Court on Thursday October 12.
