Man, 21, due in court following overnight police pursuit in NSW

A man will face court today, charged with multiple drug offences following a police pursuit through Lake Illawarra overnight.

Police say they first spotted the 21-year-old man behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Triton which was seen driving erratically along Commerce Drive at around 11pm.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the 21-year-old driver allegedly refused to pull over.

Police gave chase and pursued the vehicle to the intersection of Reddall Parade and View Street where the Mitsubishi crashed into a stationary Toyota Hilux.

The male driver jumped out of the car and ran fro the scene.

He was arrested in nearby View Street following a short foot pursuit.

Police searched the man, allegedly finding a knife, drug paraphernalia, pills, cannabis leaf, a liquid vial and a “crystal substance suspected of being illicit drugs”.

The 21-year-old man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with a long list of serious offences, including police pursuit not stop (“Skye’s Law”), negligent driving, custody of knife in public place, two counts of possess prohibited drug and possession of prescribed restricted substance.

He was also charged in relation to an outstanding warrant.

Refused bail, the young man was scheduled to front Wollongong Local Court today.
