Man, 25, charged with murder after fatal fight

A MAN in his 20s has been charged with murder after allegedly beating a man more than twice his age to death at a house in Far North Queensland.

Police said the 25-year-old became involved in a fight with a 56-year-old man at a house on Kelly Road at Maadi, south of Cairns, around 7pm on Tuesday.

During the altercation, it’s alleged the younger man repeatedly punched the older man in the head, causing him to lose consciousness.

Police and paramedics were called to the house and arrived a short time later, but there was nothing they could do to save the older man.

Sadly, the 56-year-old’s injuries were too severe and he died before be could be transported to hospital.

The younger man was arrested and has since been charged with one count of murder.

He was due to front Innisfail Magistrates Court today.
