Man, 51, charged with murder after woman found dead in NSW home

A MAN will face court today, charged with murder after a woman was found stabbed to death in her Lake Macquarie home.

The 51-year-old man was found with facial injuries, sitting in a car which had crashed on Macquarie Road at Fassifern around 10pm last night.

Following inquiries at the scene, officers attended a home in William Street, Toronto, where they discovered the body of a 67-year-old woman. Police said she’d been stabbed multiple times.

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital for assessment of his injuries before being taken to Belmont Police Station where he was formally charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.

Police said the man and woman were known to each other and the incident was domestic-violence related.

A crime scene remains in place at the Toronto home today and investigations by the Homicide Squad are continuing.
