Man, 57, allegedly started masturbating in front of kids in Melbourne store

A man has been arrested, charged and refused bail after he was allegedly caught masturbating in front of horrified women and children in a store in Melbourne’s south-east.

The incident took place in a store on the corner of Neerim and Koornang Roads at Carnegie around 3.30pm on Monday 18 July.

Staff were forced to call police when a 57-year-old man allegedly walked into the store and starting masturbating in front of mortified customers, including children.

He was arrested at the scene and taken away for questioning.

He has since been charged with committing an indecent act in the presence of a child under 16, common law exposure, wilful and obscene exposure, behaving in an indecent manner in a public place, and loitering with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The 57-year-old man was refused bail to appear before Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on 1 August.

Investigators believe there were a number of people inside the store at the time of the incident who are yet to make contact with police.
