Man, 70, accused of child rape, indecent assault

A 70-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a young girl and raping another in separate attacks in Sydney’s south-west.

Detectives began investigating the man after a woman came forward and told police she had been sexually and indecently assaulted by the man as a 12-year-old girl.

The assaults allegedly took place at a business in Condell Park in 1998 and 1999.

While investigating the woman’s claims, police said a second girl came forward and told them she too had been indecently assaulted by the man at the same location but in 2014, 15 years later.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives attended the Condell Park business and arrested the 70-year-old man on Friday.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station where, following extensive questioning, he was charged with six counts of assault with acts of indecency and one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

The man would have been 50 years old at the time of the first alleged assault, and aged about 65 at the time of the second attack.

The now 70-year-old has been released on strict conditional bail and is due to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, March 13.

Police said court orders have been granted to help protect the victims.
