Man, 77, pistol-whipped in home invasion

A MAN in his 70s has been taken to hospital with head injuries after being pistol-whipped in a violent home invasion near Newcastle.

Police said the 77-year-old was woken by someone knocking on the front door of his Penylan Street home at Cardiff just after 1am on Sunday.

A short time later, police said three men burst into the house and clocked the elderly men over the head with a gun.


The intruders, all of whom had their faces concealed, demanded money from the injured man before fleeing with his wallet and mobile phone.

A neighbour rushed to the elderly man’s aid and called police.

The 77-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to what police said was a minor head injury.

An investigation is underway to locate the man’s attackers.
