Man, 80, charged with shooting at 71-year-old wife in NSW domestic

AN 80-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly armed himself with a rifle and shot at his 71-year-old wife during a domestic disturbance at their home in the NSW Hunter Region.

Police were called to reports of shots fired inside the couple’s Dungog Road home at Hilldale, around 30km north of Maitland, on Friday.

It’s alleged the 80-year-old man had discharged a rifle inside the home during an argument with his 71-year-ol wife.

Officers swooped on the scene and seized the rifle. The 80-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Maitland Police Station for questioning.

He was eventually charged with firing a firearm in a manner likely to injure persons (DV), possess unregistered firearm, and common assault.

Fortunately, the man’s wife was not harmed.

The 80-year-old man was remanded in custody on Friday night to appear in court yesterday.
