Man, 81, found bleeding from severe head wounds on NSW street

A STRIKE force has been established to investigate the discovery of an elderly man found bleeding from severe head wounds on a Port Macquarie street last night.

The 81-year-old was found with significant head injuries on William Street shortly after 11pm last night.

How the man sustained his injuries remains a mystery. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Port Macquarie Hospital.


A crime scene was established on William Street which was examined by detectives and forensic specialists overnight.

Police have established Strike Force Merle to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area of William and Short Streets at around 11pm or anyone who may have information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
