Man, 97, charged with domestic violence offences against elderly wife

A 97-year-old man has been charged with domestic violence offences after his elderly wife was rushed to hospital with leg and neck fractures last night.

Around 7.00pm, paramedics were called to a home at Redhead following reports a woman was injured.

Police say it’s alleged the 80-year-old woman’s husband pushed her to the ground during an argument.

She was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where she received treatment for a fractured leg, fractured neck and facial injuries.

The man was arrested and has since been charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and served with an Apprehended Violence Order (DV).

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Belmont Local Court on 3 July.
