Man accused of bashing police officer due in court
A man has surrendered himself to police after he allegedly punched, kicked and attempted to choke a police officer on the Sunshine Coast.
The 45-year-old is due to front Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning.
Police accuse the man of attacking the 47-year-old male sergeant, who pulled him over.
He’s also accused of stealing the sergeant’s helmet which had his police-issued body-worn camera attached.
The officer was forced to deploy his OC spray and taser during the struggle before the Balmoral Ridge man allegedly fled the scene.
He’s been charged with a string of offences including, serious assault occasioning bodily harm, stealing, producing dangerous drugs, driving a motor vehicle without a license and authority required to possess explosives.
