Man accused of drugging flatmate before bashing him with hammer

A man has been charged after allegedly drugging his flatmate before smashing him in the head with a hammer.

Police were called to a unit block on Day Street in Sydney about 6.15pm on Friday, following reports of an assault.

Upon arrival, they found a 26-year-old man in a bedroom suffering head injuries.


He was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition being treated for two skull fractures as well as cuts to his head and a fractured hand.

A second man, also aged 26, was arrested at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard.

He has since been charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder.

“Police will allege in court the man hit his flatmate in the head with a hammer,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The man has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
