Man accused of murdering stepdaughter refused bail

A NSW man accused of killing his 12-year-old stepdaughter has been refused bail.

The 31-year-old from the Hunter Valley was charged with the young girls murder yesterday after her body was found inside her bedroom by her mother.

Police allege that the girl had been assaulted on Tuesday night before she either went to bed or was placed there.

The accused did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

The case was adjourned until October 7.
