Man accused of setting Worongary home on fire

UPDATE: A MAN accused of setting fire to his Worongary home overnight has been remanded in custody.

It’s alleged Thomas Albert Mornane, 41, doused the Thredbo Drive home in petrol before setting it alight around 8pm on Monday.

Thankfully, no one was inside the house at the time.

He will remain behind bars until the case returns to court on August 28.

EARLIER: A WORONGARY house has suffered significant damage in an alleged arson attack.

A 41-year-old man has been charged with using an accelerant to start the fire on Thredbo Drive around 8pm on Monday.

Emergency crews did their best to contain the fire, but the property still suffered major damage.

The alleged arsonist was located a short while later in the vicinity and apprehended by police.

The Worongary local has been charged with one count of arson and will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.
