Man accused of stealing car and hurting Police dog during arrest
A MAN has allegedly hit a police dog while trying to evade officers during a dramatic arrest in Logan.
The Waterford man, 25, is accused of stealing a car from a Camelia Avenue residence in Logan Central around 3pm on Friday before crashing it into a parked vehicle on Cedarwood Street at Berrinba.
Police say he also smashed through the fence of a nearby residence, before running from the scene and allegedly attempted to get into a number of moving vehicles.
The Dog Squad tracked the man to a property in Logan Central, where he allegedly refused to obey police direction.
He was apprehended by a police dog and is alleged to have hit the dog several times before being taken into custody.
He was taken to the Logan Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries to his leg.
He has been charged with thirteen offences including assault police officer, attempting to injure a police dog and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.
