Man accused of terror plot in court

A MAN accused of a terrorist plot involving a public beheading is expected to apply for bail when he appears in a Sydney court on Friday.

22-year-old Omarjan Azari was arrested during sweeping pre-dawn terrorism raids in Sydney in September and is accused of conspiring with Islamic State member Mohammad Baryalei to execute a random member of the public.

Court papers from November suggest their plotting began on May 8, and the court heard Azari knew he was under police surveillance.

Azari is in custody at Goulburn’s supermax prison.

His case is listed for mention at Central Local Court.
