Man airlifted to hospital after shark attack in Central Queensland

A man has reportedly been attacked by a shark in waters off Central Queensland.

Paramedics were called to North West Island, about 75 kms north east of Gladstone around 1pm this afternoon after reports a male had been bitten by a shark.

A helicopter was dispatched and landed at the scene a short time later.

The man in his 30s had suffered lacerations to his lower limbs and hands.

He was treated on scene before being taken by helicopter to Gladstone Base Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

It’s believed the man was attacked by a shovel nose shark.
