Man allegedly caught setting multiple fires in Gold Coast basement

A 44-year-old man’s been charged with multiple offences after he was allegedly caught setting fires in several bins under a building in Southport overnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene along Davenport Street just after midnight, where they discovered an industrial bin and three general waste bins alight.

Police officers used garden hoses to help firefighters extinguish the blazes.


Luckily, no one was injured in the incident, and the 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He’s facing one count of endangering particular property by fire and wilful damage.

He’s due to front Southport Court on August 30.
