A security guard has been charged with assault after a man was allegedly knocked unconscious outside a nightclub in Potts Point this morning.

Officers were patrolling Darlinghurst Road around 1.00am on Sunday, when they were flagged down by people concerned for the welfare of a 33-year-old man on the footpath.

“Police were told the man had lost consciousness for several minutes when he was allegedly pushed by a security guard, falling backwards and hitting his head on the path,” NSW police said.

Officers rendered first aid to the man before paramedics arrived and rushed him to St Vincent’s Hospital.

He was held under observation for nine hours before being discharged.

The security guard, a 28-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Kings Cross Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear in Central Local Court on Tuesday 25 May.

Police said an application for suspension/revocation of the man’s licence has also been made.
