Man allegedly raped woman on first date in grounds of Brisbane cathedral

A 25-year-old Brisbane man was granted bail yesterday after allegedly raping a woman in the grounds of Brisbane cathedral. It is reported he met the woman on a dating app, they exchanged text messages, and the incident then happened on their first date.

The man was charged with two counts of rape, one charge of deprivation of liberty and one of sexual assault. His bail was granted by Brisbane Supreme Court on strict conditions including not using online dating services and staying indoors between 7pm and 6am.

Douglas Wilson, the man’s lawyer, said that consent would be an issue at the trial.
