Man and woman hospitalised after savage dog and goanna fight
A MAN and woman have been hospitalised after being attacked by a large goanna whilst trying to save their pet dog in Queensland’s Airlie Beach.
It’s understood the reptile attacked the pooch in the backyard of a home in Flametree just after 3.30pm on Thursday.
The 72-year-old man and his wife tried to save their dog when the goanna suddenly lactched onto them.
The man suffered significant injuries to his leg and arm, with Shane Tucker from Queensland Ambulance revealing the man was “severely bleeding”.
He was airlifted to Mackay Hospital for further treatment, however was in a stable condition.
The woman in her 60s also sustained a bite to her foot from the Goanna and was taken stable to Proserpine Hospital.
Sadly, the dog could not be saved and died shortly after the attack.
