Motorists are being advised to avoid the Gold Coast Highway southbound following a serious traffic accident this morning.
The highway southbound near Goodwin Terrace at Burleigh Heads is completely closed after a garbage truck struck two pedestrians just after 8.30am.
The couple, a 49-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, were crossing the Gold Coast Highway, when the truck which was turning from Goodwin Terrace into the Gold Coast Highway, hit the pair.

They both received multiple injuries and have been transported to hospital where they are in a serious condition.
The Gold Coast Highway southbound remains closed at Goodwin Terrace while Forensic Crash officers conduct investigations at the scene.
