Man armed with axe hurls firebomb at police after ramming government building

A MAN armed with an axe who allegedly hurled a firebomb at police after attempting to crash his car through a government building in Canberra this afternoon has been tackled by a squad of Australian Federal officers.  

Police were called to the Brindabella Business Park in the country’s capital on Friday afternoon, which houses various government agencies, including the AFP and Australian Department of Defence.

On arrival, police were greeted with a hostile man armed with an axe and explosive molotov cocktail.


After reportedly trying to ram one of the office buildings with his vehicle, he turned on officers and hurled the firebomb towards them.

After a brief altercation, Australia Federal Police subdued the man and have since taken him into custody.

It’s being reported the man may suffer from a mental health condition.
