A service station attendant has been threatened with a knife during an attempted armed robbery in Molendinar.

A man wearing a hoodie and a beanie pulled down over his face approached the locked doors of the service station on Ashmore Rd around 1.20am this morning.

The employee asked the man to remove his beanie before unlocking the doors to allow him in.

The man complied but once inside threatened the console operator with what has been described as a long-bladed knife in one hand and a crowbar in the other.

The offender demanded the attendant hand over money but he refused.

The armed man then reportedly became agitated, hitting the counter with the crowbar along with the front glass door as he left.

The man fled empty handed while the worker was uninjured.

Police are now investigating.
